International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is observed on August 9 each year to promote and protect the rights of the world’s Indigenous population. This event also recognises the achievements and contributions that Indigenous people make to improve world issues such as environmental protection.

Diwali – Festival of Lights

Australians of Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths celebrate Deepavali (Diwali), or the Festival of Lights. This is a very popular festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur – begins at sunset on 8 October and ends at sunset on 9 October 2019 This holiest day of the Jewish year is observed with fasting and repentance. Many Jews will refrain from work and attend synagogue services. Work is not permitted. Most Jews will cease work at around midday on 18 September
